About Papa Russ

At the ripe old age of 60, Papa Russ decided retirement wasn’t for him and he needed something new to fill his days. After thinking it over, he realized that the perfect solution would be to focus on barbecue. He’d spent 20 years perfecting this hobby of his—he might as well share it with everyone! So on August 14, 2006, with a little help from his friends, Papa Russ celebrated his 61st birthday with the Grand Opening of the only Texas-style BBQ joint in town.

Feedback from customers and critics alike has been great and Papa Russ couldn’t be more pleased. He’s living his dream and is excited to be back in the kitchen, doing what he loves most!

Barbecue—it’s in his Blood…

You won’t find packaged mixes or any store-bought junk in this kitchen! These recipes are tried and true, good ole family favorites passed down and made with love each morning! SOB’s chili?

Why, that comes from Sweet Old Bill—Papa Russ’s dad. Who’s JJ? Jennifer—The lovely bride of Papa Russ and master cook when it comes to those baked beans.

No meal is complete without a treat at the end and no one knows this better than Papa Russ! He’s searched high and low, but just cant find any dessert recipes that beat his mother-in-law’s. One bite of Mama’s legendary Apple Dapple Cake and you’ll stop searching too!

Both Grandma Nettie’s  Cole Slaw and  Grandma Tommie’s Potato Salad were so  good, Papa Russ couldn’t  resist asking the family friends if he could add  their recipes to his menu. Now, these lovely ladies don’t normally just pass out family secrets on the street corner, but for Papa Russ they were willing to make an exception…take advantage of their  generosity!
